Asha Bhosle to do Sinhalese song with Lankans
COLOMBO: Legendary crooner Asha Bhosle is all set to record her first Sinhalese number, as she blends voices with popular Sri Lankan singing duo, Bathiya and Santhush.
“I have sung in 18 languages but have always wondered why I haven’t sung a song in Sinhalese?” Asha said at a function here this week. Resplendent in a white silk sari with a pink border, she told Colombo’s glitterati that she found “Ceylon” to be India. “I think Ceylon is India and India is Ceylon. I want to come here again and again. So please call me,” she pleaded as the audience cheered.
However, Asha confessed she hadn’t taken to Sinhalese music instantly. “I heard many Sinhalese songs before I liked the music.”
Asha will be singing Dedunna Sedi (Rainbow Washed Away) and the Hindi version of the Sinhalese hit Pethu Pem Pethum (Hope of Love) with Bathiya and Santhush.
